This week, construction crews broke ground at the site of the new American Tower Edge Data Center in Raleigh, North Carolina—a groundbreaking feat in more ways than one. Not only is it the company’s first Data Center in Raleigh but it is also the first in a new class of Data Center offerings for American Tower.

The Raleigh facility is part of a class of data centers, referred to as Aggregation Edge Data Centers, which are intended to extend cloud services closer to the edge. This enables local enterprises to improve business outcomes through advanced performance for modern technologies, such as hybrid cloud and Artificial Intelligence (AI). Raleigh represents an ideal data center location, since it is one of the fastest growing metro areas in the U.S. and is near renowned academic institutions and large enterprises in Research Triangle Park.1

The milestone represents the first of many as American Tower enters the build phase for its newest facility. The data center will be capable of delivering four (4) megawatts of power at full capacity and is expected to span 4,000 square feet and require one (1) megawatt of power in the initial build. Construction activities will continue throughout the summer, with the facility expected to be customer ready in the first quarter of 2025.
